HKU Law Alumni Charity Limited

HKU Law Alumni Charity Limited was formed in November 2004 by The University of Hong Kong Law Alumni Association for fund raising purposes.  It is exempted from tax under section 88 of the Inland Revenue Ordinance, Cap. 112.  Donations of $100 or more are deductible allowances under section 26C.

Under Ms Lucy Yen's leadership, the Charity established "The University of Hong Kong Law Alumni Association Fund" in 2009 for the following purposes:

      (i)      granting scholarships, prizes, loans, financial, material or other assistance
to law students at the Faculty of Law of the University of Hong Kong on such
terms as the Board of Governors may decide from time to time; and

(ii)     any other object or objects of the Charity; and

raised donations totalling $424,212.36.

In July 2010, the Charity donated to HKU:

(i)      $424,212.36 to set up the law alumni scholarship; and
(ii)     $50,000 for the Faculty's use.

Under the Government Matching Grant Scheme and the Stanley Ho Alumni Challenge Scheme, a total donation of $1,164,130.90 would be generated.

At the LLB Opening Ceremony on 31 August 2010, Ms Lucy Yen presented the donation as well as the law alumni scholarship.

Message from the Vice-Chancellor

I was pleased to learn from the Faculty of Law that HKU Law Alumni Charity Limited has donated HK$424,212.36 for the setting up of The University of Hong Kong Law Alumni Association Scholarship, and further HK$50,000 for the Faculty's use. The gift will be submitted for matching from the Government Matching Grant Scheme and the Stanley Ho Alumni Challenge as appropriate.

We are so grateful for our law alumni's support of the Faculty and for their generosity, which reflects their trust in the legal education that HKU provides. Their gift will help us to expand opportunities for our students and will have a long-lasting impact on the lives of future generations of legal professionals. Please convey our thanks to your members.

I would also like to take this opportunity to welcome HKU Law Alumni Charity Limited as a Voting Member of the HKU Foundation.
